Cecil D. Buchanan
Cecil D. Buchannan is a Korean War Veteran and previously served as Greenville County Administrator. Mr Buchannan attended Anderson College and the University of South Carolina. He has been an active member of the American Legion for 49 years. Mr Buchannan has served in numerous civic roles over the years and has served on several boards.
Some of the awards Mr. Buchannan has received for his service to his community and to the American legion are: United States Congressional Spirit of Freedom Award; South Carolina Order of the Palmetto; South Carolina Silver Crescent; Two proclamations from the City of Greenville; Legionnaire of the Year, 4 times; Commanders Award, 4 times and American
Legion Post 214 Distinguished Service Award.
Cecil is an avid collector of Military memoribilia. With his fondess for military collections and for teaching young people, Cecil originally founded the Cecil D. Buchanan War Museum at Post 3, Greenville, SC in 2013. After a few years, it was decided to form a new Post along with a new Museum. Post 214 was formed in 2015 and the Museum was renamed the Cecil D Buchannan Military History Museum to better reflect the mission of the Museum, “to Honor, Preserve and Teach".
